COVID-19 and Working from Home

Working from Home

We are all currently operating in a time of uncertainty and strain as we try our very best to stop the spread of COVID-19 and reduce its impact. So, firstly, we want to commend you for your efforts. We know that many of you are not working in ideal work environments. As we mentioned in our last communication, we are here to help. Our on-site visits have been reduced, but we are working hard to remotely help clients set up home offices and secure access to files and necessary resources.

The Crypto Virus: Are you Protected?

We had a client once tell us: “I heard about the CryptoLocker Virus on the news, but I never really expected it could happen to me.” Unfortunately, it can. And, even worse, it did. The scariest part is that this is not an isolated incident. It can happen to anyone. Whether you have a small business, a large corporation, or a home computer, you are at risk!

Thoughts on International Women's Day

Michelle and boys

Our very own Technology Consultant, Michelle DesRosiers, penned this letter to our staff on International Women's Day and we wanted to share it with all of you too.  Thank you Michelle!  We truly appreciate all that you do and all that you are.

From Michelle:

I wanted to take this opportunity on this International Women’s Day to appreciate the amazing women at PeaceWorks – thank you Elaine, Jacqueline, Susan and Karen.  I am honoured to know you and value all that you are.  Thank you!

Risk Management and Website Maintenance

We are involved in a great number of website projects and also provide support to clients for websites they have previously built. As part of this work, one of the things we are careful to do is to make our clients aware of ongoing or future costs they should budget for. For example, any website requires some sort of hosting cost for the physical hardware that contains the website.

Google announces a significant algorithm change. Is your website ready?

The way we interact with the web is always changing. In recent years, the importance of mobile-friendly and responsive websites has grown dramatically as the mobile web has been adopted around the world with easier access, decreasing prices, and faster devices.

Supporting GivingTuesday

For the second year in a row, PeaceWorks has participated in GivingTuesday.  Giving Tuesday is a national day of giving.  It is a movement that encourages giving back to your community in a tangible way following the commercial events of "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday".

The New Guy

Joining the PeaceWorks team is a unique experience. I’ve only been here a few weeks and I can already feel it.

During 30 years of work in the industry which might be generally described as “doing things with computers” I have been employed in nearly a dozen positions. The majority have been in a customer support role and in the for-profit market. Some in software, some in hardware, some in-house, some assisting external customers, some for long periods of up to 14 years’ time, some for as little as a year.

Information Security (InfoSec) for Websites

In today's online world, security is a major concern. The ease in which we are able to share information also means that there are ample opportunities for someone to get “hacked”. {C}

When Backups are Not Enough: Failover Server Design

You're a systems administrator and things are good. You've got backups in place to protect your precious data. Congratulations, this is great! But is it enough?

Hints and Tips for Adding Content to Your Website

Using a WYSIWYG Editor: Hints and Tips for Adding Content to Your Site

Over the last several years, Content Management Systems (CMSs) have come a long way. Instead of typing plain text (or HTML) into a box, we now have an editor that looks similar to your word processor. The editor provides standard word processing features like Bold, Italic, Center Justified and much more. However, despite the similar look and feel there are some key differences that can make life difficult. Listed below are my top 5 tips to make your life easier.
