Reception House Waterloo Region Receives the 2016 Mayor’s City Builder Award

PeaceWorks is pleased to congratulate one of its long-time clients on receiving a well-deserved award!

According to their website:

Reception House is thrilled to receive the 2016 Mayor’s City Builder Award. Awarded on January 8th,2016 at Kitchener City Hall, the City Builder Award is presented to groups or individuals who have shown great initiative in their volunteerism and service to the city. This year the mayor chose five individuals and one organization to receive the award. We are honoured to be recognized among this city’s great leaders including our community partner Dr. Mike Stephenson of Sanctuary Refugee Health Centre.

Ray of Hope opens Refugee House in Waterloo

 

We love the work our clients do and are pleased to share the latest news from Ray of Hope!

As CTV Kitchener reports:

Ray of Hope’s new refugee house got a warm welcome in Waterloo on Saturday.

Neighbours, dignitaries and members of the community gathered for the grand opening on Allen Street. After the ribbon was cut there was a barbecue and tour of the home.

The property was purchased by Ray of Hope as a place for refugees to stay while they get settled in the community.

For more than 50 years, the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief sale has brought volunteer supporters and businesses together with buyers who care about poverty, peace and global needs. With over 40 venues supported by 2,000 volunteers, the relief sale is a remarkable community event and a beautiful expression of community compassion.

Juke Box Mania 2016

It's best described as a "Name That Tune" from every musical genre in a fun, relaxed, party-like atmosphere. Participants enjoy entertainment (the game), a talented deejay and master of ceremonies, door prizes, an amazing silent auction and a light dinner at Grand Valley Golf and Country Club. The party begins at 6:00 p.m. and wraps up around 10 p.m. There's even popcorn! The best part is that the funds raised will support FCC's important work in Cambridge and North Dumfries
